Why I'm Running

Meet Candidate

A life shaped by service, education and community.

Service has been a constant throughout my life.

I am Cynthia O. Ford, candidate for South Carolina House District 57. My roots in the community helped shape my understanding of service, responsibility and the importance of showing up for others.

My professional journey has taken me into classrooms, community programs, public service and the United States Air Force. I began my career working with children and families, including serving as a Head Start teacher. I later served with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, where my responsibilities grew from Community Specialist to Intensive Supervision Officer and ultimately County Director.

My commitment to service also led me to the United States Air Force, where I served in Security Forces and later as a Medical Technician. I was honorably discharged in 2025. Each of these experiences gave me a different perspective on the needs of individuals, families and communities.

Education has also been an important part of my journey. I earned associate degrees in Criminal Justice and Practical Nursing Technology, a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Coastal Carolina University and a master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. I am also an author, speaker, consultant and grant writer whose work has included helping organizations strengthen programs and identify resources to serve their communities.

Throughout the years, I have remained connected to the people and communities that helped shape me. Whether working with children and families, serving in public safety, supporting nonprofit organizations or volunteering in the community, service has never simply been a title or position. It has been part of my life’s work.

Why I’m Running

My decision to run for the South Carolina House grew from those experiences and from listening to people throughout our rural communities. I have heard concerns about access to healthcare, housing, economic opportunity, roads, community safety and the future we are creating for our children and families.

I am running for South Carolina House District 57 because I want to bring my experience in public service, education, community work and organizational leadership to the legislative process and advocate for the communities of District 57.

This campaign is another chapter in a life that has consistently centered on service.
